Re-edited in 2021, this book is part of The Darcelle Project which was awarded the 2021 Oregon Heritage Excellence Award.

The Darcelle Project has many facets to its reach, one being a musical Darcelle: That's No Lady; another a biography entitled Darcelle: Looking from my mirror. This book reaches into Walter Cole/Darcelle's ability to, for over 50 years make, create, wear as well as being in a variety of situations or be with interesting people while being the Guinness Book of Records Worlds Oldest Performing Drag Queen. This book has been compiled by Donnie with the assistance of Walter to present the many 'shades' of Darcelle.

The book was written to be in conjunction with the ‘The Many Shades of Being Darcelle’ exhibit hosted by the Oregon Historical Society from August to December 2019 along with the award winning musical Darcelle: That's No Lady which premiered in Portland, Oregon on September 19, 2019, to rave reviews and sold out houses.
